Weather Policy

Our top priority is the safety of our players, families, coaches, and referees. Please review the guidelines below regarding weather-related field and game decisions.

Weather Monitoring

All decisions are made with player safety as the top priority. Club leadership actively monitors radar for:

  • Rain

  • Thunder and lightning

  • Severe storm systems

Time Frame & Communication

  • A decision on field status will be made by 4:00 PM on practice days when possible.

  • Families and coaches will be notified of any field closures via email, social media, and app push notification communication.

  • In rapidly changing conditions, updates may occur closer to start time or on-site.

Practice & Game Cancellations

Safety and field conditions always guide final decisions. Practices and games may be:

  • Cancelled prior to start time.

  • Delayed or stopped once on-site due to changing weather.

  • Cancelled due to unsafe field conditions (heavy rain, standing water, or damage from prior weather).

If Severe Weather Occurs During Play

  • An air horn will sound to alert all participants at Adams.

  • All players and spectators must immediately evacuate the fields.

  • Seek shelter in vehicles only (NOT the shelter area).

  • Parents are encouraged to remain on-site if severe weather is approaching so players have access to a vehicle.

Thunder & Lightning Policy

  • Thunder is treated the same as lightning.

  • Play will stop immediately if we see radar-indicated lighting within 10 miles of the fields, thunder is heard, or lightning is seen.

  • All participants must return to their vehicles.

30-Minute Rule

  • Activities may resume only after 30 minutes have passed since the last thunder or lightning.

  • The 30-minute clock resets with each new occurrence.

  • Lightning must be at least 10 miles away before play resumes.

Severe Weather: Watch vs. Warning

When the National Weather Service issues alerts our referees and club leadership have authority to delay, cancel, or abandon play.

Watch Issued

  • Activities may continue but are closely monitored.

Warning Issued

  • Practices or games may be cancelled or abandoned immediately.
